UMCWC Story Slam - Saturday, September 28
Doors open at 6:30, Storytelling begins at 7 pm
Fiesta Center
Save the date for the evening of Saturday, September 28 for our first church-wide story slam. Our church family will come together to share true, 5 minute stories related to the theme "Home."
Storytellers and listeners are needed for this event! Two storytelling workshops will be held for those interested in working on their story with help from an experienced storyteller. Get the details and register for a story slam workshop here.
Tickets for the slam are $10 per person and include coffee and dessert. Proceeds benefit the Youth Mission Fund. Tickets can be purchased in the Gathering Area between services leading up to the slam, or online here.
UMCWC Story Slam Guidelines
-
Those interested in telling a story will sign up upon arrival. Names will be drawn one-by-one and storytellers will be called to the microphone to tell their story. We hope to hear between 10-12 stories throughout the evening.
-
Storytellers may not use notes, props, or music.
-
Stories should relate in some way to the theme of the night: Home
-
Stories can be funny, serious, sad, action-packed or simple. They can take place over a period of years or be about a single moment in time.
-
Stories should not be an essay, a rant, stand-up comedy, fiction, or a folktale. You should be a main character in your story.
-
Stories should be about 5 minutes long.
-
We will not have judges giving scores to storytellers. Instead, our audience will choose one "Audience Favorite" story at the end of the night.
